Chang Tung Sheng Demonstrates Tai Chi
Chang Tung Sheng (1908–1986) demonstrates Tai Chi in this film taken in the early 1980’s at the Ohio State University. He was in his 70’s when this film was taken. Chang made several trips to the United States in the 1980’s. Chang Tung Sheng started learning Kung Fu at the age of 7 years old from his father and grandfather. Later in his youth he learned Shuai Chiao, also known as Chinese Wrestling, from Chang Feng Yen. This style of Kung Fu went on to become the main style of Chang Tung Sheng.
When Chang Tung Sheng was in his 20’s, he went to study Kung Fu at the Central Kuoshu Institute in Nanking. This was a school where there were many famous masters of major styles of Kung Fu taught. Chang eventually became a junior instructor at the institute. While he was there, he exchanged knowledge with some of the great masters who taught there. Chang Tung Sheng then went on to create the Chang style of Tai Chi Chuan based upon his experiences with Yang style Tai Chi Chuan, Xingyi, as well as his vast knowledge of Shuai Chiao.
Below is a book on the Chang style of Tai Chi Chuan which was written by Daniel Weng, who is a direct student of Chang Tung Sheng.
