Traditional Wu/Hao Tai Chi Form

Here is an old film taken of the old Wu/Hao Tai Chi Chuan style. The Wu tai chi style (not the style of Wu Chien Chuan) was formed by Wu Yu Hsiang, after being a senior student of Yang Lu Chan and learning from the Chen Family.

Li I Yu, who was a student and nephew of Wu Yu Hsiang , taught  Hao Wei Chen the Wu style of Tai Chi Chuan. Hao Wei Chen in turn taught his son and others, continuing passing on the traditions of the Wu style. This is why this Wu style of Tai Chi Chuan is also known as the Wu/Hao style or just the Hao style. Here the style is demonstrated by Au Yang Feng, student of Li Xiangyuan, in this vintage film footage. If any readers know if this is the accurate spelling for Au Yang Feng or know more about this practitioner, please contact me and let me know.

This particular form was being taught to me by T. T. Liang. I studied with him in Boston Mass. USA and he was at the time 82 Years old. I have since mostly forgotten the movement of the form and regretee it when he went back to China, as he stated “to be with my family when I died. He was a great teacher and I had a difficult time to get him to teach me. I loved the film and perhaps I can remember the moves and applications from further viewing the film.

Thanks for posting this. I practice Yang style. I have learned 2 different Yang forms. I have also interacted with and learned things from Chen style practitioners. However, I have very little experience with or knowledge of Wu/Hoa style so this was very interesting.

  4. I SEEM THAT THE FOOT’S WORK IS VERY LARGE IN RELATION WITH THAT OF TRADITIONAL WU ( HAO) TAIJI STYLE.
