Cheng Man Ching Performs 37 Movement Tai Chi
Cheng Man Ching (1902 – 1975) performs the 37 Movement form of Tai Chi. He studied the Traditional Yang style of Tai Chi Chuan from Yang Cheng Fu, the famous 3rd generation Yang Family master. After Cheng Man Ching moved to Taiwan, he created this 37 movement form based on the principles and movements of the Tai Chi he learned from Yang Cheng Fu.
After Cheng Man Ching moved to Taiwan in 1949, he taught Tai Chi to students such as Benjamen Lo, William C.C. Chen, T.T. Liang, as well as many others. Cheng moved to the United States in 1964, and founded the Shr Jung Center for the Cultural Arts in New York City. He went on to teach many westerners the art of tai Chi Chuan, many of whom became teachers themselves. Cheng Man Ching was also known as the “Master of Five Excellences”, being trained and proficient in Tai Chi Chuan, Chinese medicine, calligraphy, painting, and poetry.
