Tung Ying Chieh Performs Yang style Tai Chi Chuan

Here is Tung Ying Chieh/Dong Yingjie (1898-1961) performing  the Traditional Yang style of Tai Chi Chuan. Filmed in Bangkok, Thailand in 1947, Tung demonstrates the entire Yang Long Form except for the odd glitches in the film.

Tung Ying Chieh was a disciple of the famous Yang Cheng Fu.  He studied with Yang for 17 years as well as assisting teaching classes for Yang Cheng Fu. Tung eventually left China and moved first to Macau, and then to Hong Kong where he established the Tung Ying Chieh Tai Chi Chuan Gymnasium.

His lineage has been carried on by his late son Tung Hu Ling, and grandsons Tung Kai Ying and Dong Zeng Chen, as well as his other students. There are now many hundred of students practicing Tai Chi around the world that trace their lineage to Tung Ying Chieh.

This book below is a “Must Have” item for the practitioner of the Yang style of Tai Chi Chuan! It is a translation by Louis Swaim of the book written on Yang style Tai Chi by Yang Cheng Fu, the teacher of Tung Ying Chieh. Click on the image to see more!

  1. I have watched many who claim to have studied or hold a lineage to the Yangs and to YCF, and Tung demonstrates a quality of well connectedness in all his movements. He is smooth and maintains the feeling all throughout. Also, his deliveryis very much like Yang’s son who lived in Hong Kong, Sau Ho(sp?). That video can be found to compare and contrast their Forms.

  2. Molto interessante!
