Chen Lifa Performs Chen Style Kwan Dao (Guandao)
Chen Lifa performs the Kwan Dao (Guandao) routine of the Chen style of Tai Chi Chuan. This a rarely seen weapon which is part of the traditional Chen Tai Chi Chuan curriculum. This broad edged weapon is named after General Kwan, a hero of the Three Kingdoms period.
Chen Lifa was born into the Chen Family Village’s rich cultural history of the martial art of Tai Chi Chuan in 1949. He is an excellent example of what the best skills can be produced from the village. Chen Lifa was taught the Chen style of Tai Chi Chuan from his father, Chen Fulai. Chen Lifa is proficient the Old style, Xiaojia Small Frame Chen Tai Chi Chuan, who he had also learned from family members Chen Lixian, Chen Liqing, and Chen Kexin.
The book below, written by Chen Xiaowang, is on the five levels of Tai Chi Chuan. It covers the stages, from beginner all the way through to the higher levels of Chen Tai Chi Chuan training. The book is translated by Jan Silberstorff, who gives his expert commentary on the five levels in the book.
