Cheng Man Ching Teaching Beginner Class – Part 3

This is Part 3 of the video showing a class of beginners being taught the movements of the 37 Movement Yang Form by Cheng Man Ching (1902 – 1975). This 8mm film footage is from the 1960′s, and was taken at the Tai Chi Center in New York City which Cheng Man Ching founded. Although there is no sound on the film, this film is still valuable to watch just to see how Cheng Man Ching moved while performing his Tai Chi.

Cheng Man Ching learned Tai Chi from Yang Cheng Fu, tthe famous 3rd generation master of the Yang Family style of Tai Chi Chuan. In 1949 Cheng Man Ching moved to Taiwan. where he taught Tai Chi to many students, including Benjamen Lo, T.T. Liang, William C.C. Chen, and others. In 1964 Cheng relocated to the United States and taught many students Tai Chi in New York City at the Shr Jung Center for the Cultural Arts.

The teachings of Cheng Man Ching have spread across the globe with many of his  students starting their own schools of Tai Chi. Cheng Man Ching was also known as the “Master of Five Excellences”, having been trained and proficient in Chinese medicine, Tai Chi Chuan, calligraphy, painting and poetry.
