Tai Chi Postures of Cui Yishi
Cui Yishi (1892-1970) is seen in these photographs performing postures from the traditional Yang style of Tai Chi Chuan. He was one of the top students of the famous Tai Chi master Yang Cheng Fu. He starting learning from Yang in 1909. Cui Yishi continued learning from Yang Cheng Fu, traveling with Yang as his teaching assistant on trips in China.
After the death of Yang Cheng Fu in 1936, Cui Yishi taught Yang’s Tai Chi Chuan in places such as Nanjing, Xian, Wuhan, Guangzhou, and Shanghai. Later, Cui Yishi became the Commissioner of The Beijing Wushu Association. He was also the head of the Yongnian Taijiquan Society in Beijing.
Cui Yishi was instrumental in furthering the knowledge of Traditional Yang style of Tai Chi Chaun for new generations of Tai Chi enthusiasts. He taught his grandson, Cui Zhongsan, who has continued spreading the teachings of his grandfather.
