Tai Chi Documentary From The 1950’s
This video is apparently part of a longer documentary on Tai Chi Chuan. It was filmed in September of 1959 by the Chinese Army Film Studios. This footage was converted directly in the 1990’s from the producer’s source copy of film. It features some of the famous Tai Chi masters practicing in Beijing at the time. On the film are masters such as Li Yaochen, Chen Zhaokui, Sun Jianyun, Wang Yongquan, Yang Yuting, and Li Jing Wu.
After the short clips of Tai Chi demonstrations in the film, Li Jing Wu performs the 24 Movement Form of Tai Chi. Li Jing Wu was an expert at both Wu and the Chen styles of Tai Chi Chuan. He had learned the Wu style of Tai Chi Chuan from Zhao Tie An, who was a student Yang Yuting (who was also featured in the film). Li Jing Wu learned the Chen style of Tai Chi Chuan from the famous Chen Fake!
Below is an excellent book exploring the philosophical side of the art of Tai Chi Chuan. Written by Freya and Martin Boedicker. Click on the image below to see more about this great book!
